Thanks to everyone who came out on my birthday weekend – and to those who wanted to be there and couldn’t, thanks for all the ‘happy birthdays’ and ‘haha you’re so old nows’. They should tide me over for another year.

As I haven’t gotten around to getting those few photos we took on Friday night off my camera, you’re going to have to make do with looking at the pretty flowers I got on Tuesday! 😀

Ok, I also wanted to test out the ‘flower’ setting on my camera. Whatcha gonna do about it?

flowers-bunch-1.JPG
These flowers were sent to school by some mysterious relatives who thought it was a sorry state of affairs that I had to work on my birthday. 😉

flower-carnation-1.JPG
I love how bright the photos came out, despite taking them at night.

He loves me – he loves me not…

flower-iris-1.JPG
Iris!

flower-green-1.JPG
I was kinda hoping this thing was a triffid.

flowerorange61.JPG
These orange lily things were my favourite.

Well, the next more exciting (but less pretty!) post will be when I can actually get the photos off my camera. It will also depend on whether I get a phone call at 7am tomorrow, which will determine my busyometer schedule for the week.

Until then…I’d better go do some planning…just in case 😉

The birthday post July 27, 2006

Filed under: Ramblings — Annaleis @ 7:29 pm

It was my birthday on Tuesday. I’m a relief teacher. A relief teacher who isn’t getting as much work as she’d like. It was because of this current trend that I looked forward to a sleep-in on my birthday with great delight and antici…pation.

Then they rang. At 7am. Dagnabbit.

I’ve been teaching in the other grade one class all week (not the ones I had for 6 weeks, the ones next door). They’re a great class, but I did miss my day off very much. and I’ve been there every day this week, including Monday.

At least I’ll get a good pay next week!

Oh yeah, and since it was my birthday and stuff, I got pressies!

Here’s some of ’em:

pressies-1.JPG
Actually that’s most of ’em. The only things missing are a couple of cool doodads from Bread, and the awesome jewellery box I got to take to England. I also got a CD from Ally 😀 but I only got it yesterday so it’s not in the pics. You can check it out here.

pressies-3.JPG
My necklace, and the hair doo-dad with the ladybird. Under the necklace is 40 pounds. As in money.

pressies-5.JPG
A yittle floppy bear (reminds me of Oscar).

pressies-6.JPG
Hayley got me this nice little card 😀 It’s going to England with me.

pressies-7.JPG
A buzzy bee brooch, the wings are on little springs. Sproing!

pressies-8.JPG
A little keyring thong (to remember I’m an Aussie).

pressies-9.JPG
I liked this one, hehe.

pressies-2.JPG
The green writing pad is from Ally’s sister who’s visiting this month from Japan, and the knitting book is from Bread. It’s called “Hats Gloves Scarves” by Louisa Harding. I’m 3/4 of the way through my first pattern ever!

Check this out…

mitten-started.JPG mitten-end-of-cuff.JPG

mitten-half-way.JPG mitten-banshee.JPG
It’s my first mitten! I’ve finished it now, and I’m halfway through the second one.

Ok, I think that was long enough for anyone to be bothered reading. I’ve still got one more post in the tube though. I’m sure you’ll be looking forward to it.

Hobart trip – July 2006

Filed under: Friends and Family,The Social Scene — Annaleis @ 5:45 pm

Yes yes yes, it seems you’re becoming bored with looking at David Hasslehoff – amazingly – and tonight I’m suddenly not as busy as I have been lately, so I’d better get on with updating the goss about July.

Hobart trip:

Hanna, Nicole and I journeyed on down the Midlands earlier this month to visit a few friends. We bumped into some old and some new friends, and met up with the likes of Alastair, Ally and Cat and Wally.

Here are some random and silly pics that I took whilst down there. And no I didn’t get drunk. I’m not that sort.

hanna-pjs.JPG
Here’s Hanna in her PJ’s looking like a candy cane. You really dont want to see the focused one.

cat-and-nicole.JPG
Cat with Nicole, doing her best Patsy-from-Ab-Fab impression.

cat-and-al.JPG
Alastair and Cat think it’s wonderful to be here.

Ally, Cat and Me. I’m not drunk.

Redrum, Mrs Torrence, redrum!

ally-me.JPG
A crazed glasses swapping frenzy. I’m not drunk.

And so ended a rather busy night of drinking and whatnot. I was totally amazed that Cat’s kids didn’t wake up once the whole time we were there. Some people were getting a bit rowdy during the evening, but I did my best to quiet them down. I’m nice like that.

The next morning we headed back round to Cat’s house for a much needed coffee and a photoshoot with the kidlings. Here’s a cute one of them being a typical brother and sister:

girl-germs.JPG
Girl germs no returns!

That’s about all on the Hobart front, except I got out of driving home because of the appearance of a mysterious headache. Good old McCafe soon fixed that though!

Until next time (which will probably be tonight), signing off.

Don’t Hassle the Hoff July 21, 2006

Filed under: Ramblings — Annaleis @ 11:47 pm

Are you lonesome tonight?

Sick and tired of scouring the personal ads in The Advocate?

Want a man who’s not afraid to wear his budgy smugglers in public?

Here’s the Hoff’s guide to pleasing the Hoff!

dos-and-donts-of-winning-hoff.jpg

Click the pic to get a really good look about how to woo the most Hoff-tacular man in showbiz.

And remember girls, don’t treat the Hoff like he’s a god – he’s a normal guy just like anyone else. I think that’s my biggest stumbling block.

But I’m sure I’ll get over it.

She tagged me! July 20, 2006

Filed under: Ramblings — Annaleis @ 12:22 am

I’ve been TAGGED!

I’ve never done one of these before, but I’ve been told.  I’d better do what Cat says eh?

It might be a little irrelevent cos i don’t scrap 😉 (for you bogans out there, scrap is short for scrapbooking – nothing to do with having a punch up in the pub.)

1. How old are you? 22 – 23 next week argh!

2. How many kids do you have, if any? none

3. Are you married, single, divorced, widow? single

4. What is your occupation? teacher

5. What are your passions? friends and family.  I also like to crochet and do crafty things with threads.  Oh and teach.
6. Are you a dreamer or dream seeker? Normally I’d say dreamer, but right now I’d have to say DREAM SEEKER, because I’m off to see the world!

7. Are you happy with the way your life has turned out? So far so good

8. Are you a scrapper and if so how many hours a week do you scrap? Nah.

9. What do you want to do before you die? Live in total complete unbridled happiness

10. What is your favourite food? Erm…I like salad for some odd reason.  I could eat bucketloads of it.  But don’t.

11. What is the food you hate the most? Olives. They can get stuffed 😉

12. What is the most embarassing thing that has ever happened to you? It happened in a little outback Queensland town…

13. What is the happiest day of your life thus far? Probably my graduation day.  It was great!

14. Are you a neat freak? or a dirty house cleaner? Put it this way,  some days my dog can’t get into my room because the pile of crap is too high for him to climb.

I spose I better tag someone.

Tag! You’re it!  Alastair! hehe

The convict draws near July 19, 2006

Filed under: England — Annaleis @ 8:28 pm

It’s mid July, and I’m still looking for the odd dollar here and there through the fine art of relief teaching. Tomorrow I’m teaching PE for an afternoon to grade 2’s and Kinders, so that should be a blast!

I haven’t heard any news about the Visa yet, but that’s to be expected, it’s only been a week or so since it was sent off. This is something I will become more anxious about as the weeks wear on, particularly now because things are starting to heat up in the teaching overseas department. Finally!

Remember The Guy? Yeah, well, his Aussie counterpart (who’s a Lovely Pommy Bloke who works in their Aussie office) has contacted me and I’ve told him what I think of discussed my concerns about The Guy finding me some work. Any work. Lovely Pommy Bloke (LPB) has promised to get the wind up him for me. We’ll see. It’s a good thing The Guy isn’t Scottish because I can only imagine what ‘getting the wind up’ someone wearing a kilt would look like 😉 Maybe it’s not such a bad thing…Hang on, I’m getting off track.

under_the_kilt_3.jpg

Dougal thought Angus didn’t have the balls to wear a kilt.

Ahem.

Right.

Anyway, I’m waiting to hear back from that mob, and this arvo one of the other agencies I’ve been in contact with (since getting fed up with The Guy) rang wanting to know if I’d be interested in teaching at a private boarding school.

This place sounds lush. Croquet lawns, horse riding, archery, dance, ski trips to France, all meals catered, tennis courts, swimming pools, movie stars…You get the drift.

Imagine me laying there, in my lofty on-campus teaching accommodation, working on school reports whilst a masseus gives my back the once-over, then a bell dings and I head down to the dining hall for my fully catered tea, then retiring after planning my lessons for the next day and a quick yet refreshing swim. Would I fit in? Would I be able to hack it? Could I stand it? Who cares! This is the stuff that teaching dreams are made of!

But…Would they have me?

Stay tuned for the next episode of… The Convict Returns!

Something silly July 17, 2006

Filed under: Ramblings — Annaleis @ 5:20 pm

Every time I check out my blog dashboard I like to take a look at what people have been searching for to find my site. This allows me to glimpse into the minds of the more twisted visitors, and try to imagine what in the hell they had in mind when they stumbled upon this mighty bloglet.

I’d also like to know whether or not these people were satisfied with what their search engine of choice found for them…

Here are the search phrases in order of appearance:

  • My dog is constantly twitching
  • Geoff Jansz wife and girlfriend
  • Licking with 16
  • Free crochet willy warmers
  • Funny jpegs to make you piss your pants
  • Sweet Devon (Flugel says she’s a really hot porn star, I’m worried about that boy.)
  • Ants tasmania home pests launceston
  • Sweaty hands and sore tummy in children
  • Sniff her undies
  • Disturbing knitting
  • Geoff Jansz and his children
  • Organs of speech with Oscar’s face
  • Shit his pants
  • Long tongue.jpg
  • Doodle draw
  • Playboy mansion Don Vito
  • Dog lick peanut butter
  • The nuts scene in Scary Movie 4
  • Unbearable lightness of being
  • My teacher licked me out
  • Kid licks out teacher in toilet

British Bulldog July 13, 2006

Filed under: England — Annaleis @ 3:24 pm

I guess I should give you guys a little look-see into what is actually happening concerning my trip to England. There is good news and there is bad.

The last time I talked about the UK trip on here was the last time I heard from The Guy. Since then I had become downheartened with contacting him at least every week for an update on the job hunting progress.

I grew weary of always being the instigator of these conversations, and it only seemed that he responded with a job offer or a promise of putting my CV forward to schools after I visited their jobs website and found several suitable options, then emailed him my findings. It seemed that I was doing his job for him.

Not once did he back up his promises of telling me what the schools did with my application. Each time i suggested he do some work he always replied with ‘I’ll let you know as soon as they get back to me’. Evidently no-one ever got back to him. There was never any initiative from him to contact me if something came up, and I got sick of it.

Eventually I thought I’d see what would happen if I stopped being the one who began the conversations. I have heard nothing from him nor his agency since. Nonetheless, I have shelved this into the ‘no big loss’ category of my mind.

On that last day I spent waiting for him I finally snapped, and spent a whole half hour searching for other agencies in the business of recruiting Australian teachers for the UK. I applied for four online, and have been contacted by all of them.

Two of these agencies in particular have been very up front with my chances of getting a job so late in the British school year, and have given it to me straight that my best option at this point is to come over to guaranteed relief work in September, and get a contracted position through face-to-face interviews. This is why I am still aiming for arriving in September.

The British long summer holiday break begins next week and goes until early September, so there is no point of me arriving before that date without having some sort of income.

My Working Holiday Visa application has been sent off, I hope to book my flight tickets soon, and I wait for the day when I stand in the freezing crisp of the English autumn morning, waiting for a bus to take me away to my first day of school.

This guy is amazing.

I’m not sure who came up with this technique, but the results are almost ‘photorealistic’ and are attained in such a creative and resourcful way. The finished picture reminds me of an old board game called “Game of Knowledge”.
